1946 Thomas L. Cummings Jr. begins his business in Nashville, Tennessee.

1952 In one of the company's most important moves, the first Holiday Inn sign is designed and built. This new design becomes nationally recognized.

1965 International Sign Service, a licensee organization, is formed to provide installation, maintenance and field service operations nationwide.

1967 Cummings & Co. goes public with an initial stock offering of 200,000 shares. Ford Motor Co. awards Cummings & Co. a $22 million contract to produce signs for its dealers in the western half of the United States. Cummings & Co. opens a new $1 million national production center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

1968 The company changes its name to Cummings Incorporated.

1969 General Motors chose Cummings Incorporated as one of two firms to provide signs for its national dealership identification program. Cummings Incorporated is awarded a Ford contract to produce signs for its tractor division.

1976 Cummings Incorporated lands the Chrysler national dealership program account. Cummings Incorporated acquires American Time Electronics, a maker of electronic message centers.

1981 Cummings’ new Architectural Banking Division is opened in Nashville, Tennessee.

1988 Thomas L. Cummings III is named President and COO. Helicopters are used to install two Dominion Bank crest to the top of Nashville Tennessee's Dominion Bank Tower.

1993 Under a $40 million contract with Chrysler, Cummings Incorporated designs and produces new signs for 3,600 U.S. dealers.

1995 Cummings Incorporated opens a new 55,000 square-foot assembly plant in Abilene, Texas.

1996 Cummings Incorporated acquires an 185,000 square-foot plant in Fort Deposit, Alabama.

1998 Cummings Incorporated lands two national bank sign conversion programs. The multi-million dollar banking contract changed the look of 2,400 bank locations.

1999 An investor group led by principals C. Stephen Lynn and Stephen R. Kerr purchase the majority of Cummings Incorporated stock. C. Stephen Lynn becomes Chairman of Cummings Incorporated.
Cummings Incorporated acquires Industrial Machining & Signs in Jacksboro, Tennessee, adding a letter fabrication plant to its manufacturing capabilities.

2000 Cummings Incorporated expands its operations to the west coast with the opening the 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Riverside California. The Cummings West facility includes service and installation capabilities.
Cummings Incorporated launches the Fleet Bank signage conversion program in the New England area. The multi-million dollar contract converts 2,200 bank sites.

2001 Stephen R. Kerr is named President and CEO of Cummings Incorporated.

2001 Cummings West completes 300 Wells Fargo bank conversions. Cummings West also launches its Store Front Remodeling System.

2002 Cummings Incorporated becomes a supplier for the US Bank conversion. This multi-million dollar contract covers 800 banking locations.

2002 Cummings Incorporated is named a Yum Brands sign supplier for Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Backyard Burger. Cummings Incorporated has also been a supplier of KFC signage for over 37 years.

2002 Cummings Incorporated launches the new Daimler Chrysler P2100 Sign Program for 3800 dealers throughout the U.S.

2003 Cummings Incorporated purchases selected assets of Collins Sign, Inc. of Dothan, Alabama to become among the top three largest in the sign industry nation-wide.

2004 Cummings Incorporated named the sole-source supplier to Circuit City Stores

2006 – Cummings Signs implemented a new web based Site Survey System to enable customers to view, via the internet, Site Surveys and proposals using custom customer portals.

2006 – Cummings is named the sole supplier for Saturn (GM) signage and the building re-image program for 435 retailers nationwide.

2007 – Cummings’ moved into its new 27,000 square foot corporate office building located in the One Grassmere Place office park in Nashville, Tennessee.

2007 – Cummings is named a supplier for Rally’s restaurants

2008 - Nashville-based Cummings Signs announced it will add about 100 jobs and 100,000 square feet to its Dothan plant. The expansion comes in conjunction with the consolidation of its facility in Fort Deposit.
